SALTO CUÁNTICO

Salto cuántico (Quantum Leap) is an interactive sculpture with three mobile, interchangeable modules. It adopts the structure of the first computers from the nineteen-forties—contemporary totems on casters that allow constant updates, making this an open structure in the quantum space.

It’s a collective work where authorship disappears in the sum of the forms that make up the installation, following the logics of classical and quantum computing.

An interactive module presents a popular analogical 3D game, increasing its scale and enabling infinite formal possibilities. Equipped with a binary code writing panel, it also permits the visualisation of the idea of a basic interlacing.

The following module consists of a shelf that, like an analogue memory, stores the data provided by the collective NEG (Nova Escultura Galega) in the form of sculptures.

The material experiments different transformations and ceases to be raw material (quartz mineral) to become metal and slag: the geometrical volumes made by Jorge Varela, Misha Bies Golas’ variations on 1 kg of matter or Alejandra Pombo Su’s quantum leap.

The last module, made by the artist Violeta and Diego Vites, is suspended in a void through a brass tube from which hangs a reinterpretation of an Inca quipu, considered to be humanity's first analogue computer capable of storing numerical and conceptual data from a now unknown language.
